Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare seeks a Practice Supervisor - Clinical to oversee day-to-day clinic operations and staff at an assigned physician practice location. The role blends hands-on supervision with operational oversight to maintain access, patient experience, and throughput.

The position requires MA certification, BLS at hire, and 1–2 years ambulatory experience, with supervisory experience preferred. Travel to other clinics may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Medical Assistant (MA) certification required; incumbents in direct patient care must maintain applicable licensure.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
• Minimum of 1–2 years ambulatory practice experience; prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of physician practice clinical operations, including patient access, scheduling, documentation, charge capture, and work queue management.
• Experience with Epic EMR and work queue management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-site supervision of staff and participates in clinic operations to support clinical and patient flow functions.
• Assists Practice Manager with coaching, guidance, and support for clinical staff.
• Manages and approves timecards for assigned staff.
• Assists with payroll processes, staff scheduling and coordination, orientation, and training.
• Assists with budget monitoring and resource utilization to support cost-effective operations.
• Monitors work queues and ensures no open charts or missing documentation that could delay billing.
• Collaborates with coding, billing, and leadership to improve reimbursement outcomes.
• Assigns and prioritizes work for Medical Assistants, Technicians, Nurses, and other staff as needed.
• Monitors patient throughput and clinic schedules to ensure efficient flow and access, addressing concerns proactively.
• Supports development and adherence to departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
• Maintains positive communications with staff, physicians, and customers.
• Reinforces iCARE values and service excellence culture.
• Monitors office supply inventories.
• Supports performance improvement initiatives with Practice Manager.
• May travel to other clinic locations as needed.
