Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a pharmacist to provide medication-use optimization and drug distribution services at UNC Medical Center Hillsborough. The role includes interpreting prescriptions, advising on therapy, overseeing dispensing, and supervising staff during the evening shift.

Responsibilities cover patient counseling, documentation, formulary compliance, and participation in process improvement. Licensure in NC required or obtainable within 6 months of orientation.

Qualifications

• PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree.
• Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.
• Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Receives prescriptions, interprets prescriptions, and reviews the patient's medication profile/history. Clarifies incomplete, inaccurate, or contraindicated prescriptions with the prescriber, nurse, or other health professional, as appropriate.
• Utilizes and analyzes patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations and makes clinical interventions with the provider.
• Compounds and oversees the preparation and dispensing of medications including sterile products using standard formulas, processes and procedures.
• Complies with the medication formulary and programs designed to optimize drug therapy while minimizing cost.
• Completes required documentation in the medical record and other required systems.
• Counsels patients and family members regarding pharmaceutical care issues as requested.
• Directs workflow of the shift and supervises pharmacy staff and students present during that shift.
