Job summary

Mercy Health in Lorain Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nursing Student to gain direct patient care experience under RN guidance. This role supports nursing practice and patient care within regulatory guidelines.

You will shadow RNs, perform delegated tasks after competency validation, document care, and participate in handoffs, while developing critical thinking and compassionate patient interactions in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student
• Currently enrolled in nursing program with at least one clinical course and one clinical rotation
• BLS certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in applying the nursing process
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care
• Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
• Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, vital signs, hygiene, and mobility
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns
• Delivers high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff
• Documents care accurately and promptly in the patient record
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information on arrival and departure
• Performs delegated tasks after competency validation
• Participates in patient data collection (vital signs, intake/output, condition changes)
• Assists with activities of daily living and patient mobility
• Utilizes clinical technology as applicable
• Escalates concerns through proper chain of command
