This is an exciting opportunity to support our new Transitional Care Unit (TCU), which focuses on supporting boarding patients in the ED while they await inpatient beds.

The Emergency Department at Barnes–Jewish Hospital offers a dynamic, urban setting where each moment is an opportunity to serve a diverse community with various medical needs. We specialize in rapid assessment and treatment during critical moments of illness and trauma. As a Level I Trauma facility and leader in disaster preparedness for the St. Louis region, no two shifts are alike.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patients, families, or caregivers, following established standards.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards. Considers patient preferences, values, and barriers to involvement in care.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safely is essential.

Education

  • Nursing Diploma/Associate's Degree in Nursing

Licenses & Certifications

  • RN license
