Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care under supervision. You will prepare patients for procedures, collect samples, perform vital signs, and document findings in the medical record, while assisting providers and maintaining clean, stocked examination rooms.

The role involves administrative tasks and collaboration with the care team to ensure efficient patient flow and adherence to infection control protocols across procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate).
• Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to plan patient care.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings.
• Collects specimens and assists providers per standard procedures; labels and routes specimens.
• Performs daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccuracies.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; uses infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures; prepares supplies and aids in patient during procedures.
• Maintains examination rooms cleanliness; stocks rooms and checks required logs.
• Pre-visits chart preparation by ensuring labs/results are available.
• Performs clerical tasks: filing, processing insurance forms, financial records, answering phones.
• All responsibilities are essential functions under ADA.
