Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care under physician and nurse supervision. You will prepare patients for visits, perform vital signs and screening, collect specimens, and assist with procedures while maintaining infection control standards.

You will also support the medical team with chart preparation, documentation, and routine clerical tasks to ensure efficient patient flow through the clinic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT, or certified nursing attendant OR Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement patient care plans; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.
• Measures vital signs, height/weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Assists in collecting specimens and laboratory samples using standard procedures; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens.
• Performs and documents daily controls/calibration of laboratory equipment; reports inaccuracies.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; follows infection control standards including hand hygiene and PPE.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture, pelvic exam) following infection control protocols; prepares supplies, drapes patient, and assists after procedures.
• Maintains examination rooms order and cleanliness; stocks supplies and completes required logs.
• May assist in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring lab results and documentation are ready for practitioner review.
• Performs various clerical tasks (filing, insurance forms, financial records, phones) to ensure smooth patient flow.
• All duties are considered essential functions under ADA; related duties may be included.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT or CNA OR Northwell Health MA training program
