Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care under physician and nurse supervision in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will handle pre-visit preparation, vital signs, specimen collection, with strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols.

The role includes assisting with procedures, documenting findings, organizing medical records, and supporting clerical tasks to maintain efficient patient flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT or CNA with certificate OR Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement patient care plans; record visit reasons and related information for practitioner review.
• Performs vital signs, measurements, screening procedures, and documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists in specimen collection using standard procedures; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens.
• Performs daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccurate controls.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy under provider orders; follows infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures and examinations; prepares supplies and assists patient after procedures.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks supplies and maintains logs.
• May participate in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available in the medical record.
• Performs related clerical duties such as filing medical records, processing forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and ensuring patient flow.
