Job summary

American Family Care Chesapeake is seeking an outpatient Medical Assistant to support patient care in a franchise-based clinic. You will gather vitals, histories, and reason for visit, and prepare patients for exams in a fast-paced environment.

Your responsibilities include explaining procedures, handling tests and labs, administering medications, drawing blood, and maintaining accurate documentation per approved procedures.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• AMT registration and/or AAMA certification preferred.
• Six months to one year of related experience or training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam.
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure.
• Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing.
• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions.
• Respond to lab messages and call back requests.
• Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure.
• Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis.
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
