Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide general medical care in an outpatient clinic setting under the direction of a licensed provider. The role includes obtaining patient vitals, history, and preparing patients for exams.

The MA will explain procedures, ensure tests are performed timely, administer medications, draw blood, run labs, document accurately, and coordinate referrals as needed. Training is available; weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but will train the right candidate; no previous experience needed but must have a ready to learn attitude.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments per approved procedures
• Draw blood and prep labs for reference lab processing or in-house testing
• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance per written instructions
• Respond to all lab messages and callback requests
• Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure
• Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
