Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician for the M Health Fairview Clinic – Edina, with one weekend shift per month at a metro Urgent Care location. Primary hours are 11:45am–8:15pm; additional sites include Uptown, Eden Prairie, and Center for Women – Edina with supporting hours 7:00am–6:30pm.

The MLT performs waived to high-complexity testing under SOPs, ensuring specimen integrity, operating instruments, and reporting results.

Qualifications

• Associate or higher degree in a related laboratory field with practicum or equivalent to qualify for moderate complexity testing.
• Certification eligibility and training in clinical laboratory roles per CLIA guidelines.
• BLS certification within 90 days is required.

Responsibilities

• Follow SOPs to perform waived, moderate, or high complexity testing and report results.
• Collect and process specimens with proper technique per SOPs.
• Verify patient identity and specimen integrity before testing.
• Operate instrumentation and information systems per procedure.
• Maintain supplies and document QC, calibrations, and checks.
• Escalate issues to supervisor and initiate safety procedures as needed.
• Communicate abnormal/critical results to care providers.
• Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, and compliance programs.
• Orient and mentor new staff and students; complete training checklists.

Education

Associate degree in lab-related field

Lab science or medical laboratory technology degree

60 semester hours in biology and chemistry

50-week US military medical laboratory training (plus degree/credits)

HHS-approved lab certification eligibility

ASCP/ASCPi/AMT/AAB-MLT certification eligibility within 1 year

BLS (American Heart Association/Red Cross) within 90 days
