Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Casual Medical Laboratory Technician for the Northeast Clinic Laboratories. This 0.01 FTE role involves shifts across multiple Fairview clinics with travel between sites. Mileage reimbursement and $3/hour float pay apply when traveling to locations.

The MLT performs waived to moderate/high complexity testing, follows SOPs, and ensures specimen integrity while supporting lab QA and patient care. Some travel between clinics is required.

Qualifications

• Associate or higher degree in a related laboratory field with practicum or equivalent for moderate complexity testing.
• Degree in chemical/biological/clinical laboratory science or medical lab tech from an accredited program.
• 60 semester hours with biology and chemistry; transcript required.
• 50-week US military medical lab training plus 60 credits with biology/chemistry.
• Must possess or be eligible for HHS approved lab certification (ASCP/ASCPi/AMT/AAB-MLT) within 1 year.
• Basic Life Support (AHA or Red Cross) within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Obtain specimens using established SOPs and perform waived to high complexity testing.
• Verify patient identity and specimen integrity before testing.
• Ensure correct specimen identification and testing priorities.
• Operate instrumentation and information systems per SOP.
• Maintain logs, QC, and inventory; escalate issues to supervisor.
• Communicate abnormal/critical results to caregivers.
