Job summary

Ochsner Health in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform tests, quality control, and instrument maintenance. You will calibrate equipment, perform phlebotomy as appropriate, and ensure patient data confidentiality.

Requires a Bachelor’s in MLS or related field, state license or trainee status with license within 90 days, and certification within 90 days. Strong data entry, communication, and analytical skills are essential for patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science.
• Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice (or Generalist Trainee permit or Lab Assistant license) and must obtain license within 90 days of hire.
• ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification within 90 days of hire (and additional conditions for Academic Medical Center).
• Proficient with Windows-style applications and data entry.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Good analytical and problem solving skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs, develops and interprets routine and/or specialized laboratory testing independently within established time frames.
• Manages quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting with documentation of actions.
• Ensures regulatory compliance and safety guidelines; adheres to accreditation standards.
• Participates in performance improvement by data analysis and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Adapts communication style to patient population and maintains patient privacy.
