Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health seeks a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide accurate testing and rapid results for clinicians. The role includes high-complexity analyses, equipment operation, documentation of QC/QA, staff training, and ensuring CAP/TJ accreditation adherence.

The position may involve specimen collection and phlebotomy, with the expectation of rotating weekends and on-call coverage as required.

Qualifications

• BSCLS from NAACLS-accredited program, or BS in Biological Science plus NAACLS CLS/MT certificate.
• Biological Science degree with 5+ years hospital lab experience in high-complexity testing.
• Current MT/MLS certification by ASCP or CLS by NCA/AMT or equivalent.
• Must obtain certification within 6 months of graduation.
• CE hours maintenance for certification per CMP requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs, documents quality control, and follows quality assurance guidelines.
• Assists in educating and training laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Maintains laboratory supplies and inventory.
• May perform specimen collection, processing and phlebotomy as applicable to location.
• Ensures accreditation standards (CAP, TJ) are maintained.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
