Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to provide accurate lab testing and timely results for patient care. The role emphasizes high-quality operations, equipment maintenance, QA compliance, and cross-training of staff within a collaborative team.

Qualified candidates will hold a BSCLS (or biology with CLS cert) and may pursue MSCLS; certification within 6 months for MT/MLS is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Biology with NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT cert program
• May require certification within 6 months of graduation for MT/MLS

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs and documents quality control and follows QA guidelines.
• Educates and trains laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Maintains laboratory supplies and inventory.
• May perform specimen collection and phlebotomy as applicable.
• Ensures accreditation standards (CAP, TJ) are maintained.
