Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform high-complexity testing and ensure rapid, accurate results for patient care. The position requires appropriate licensure or certification, ability to work rotating shifts, and commitment to upholding accreditation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program or a Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science with NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate or equivalent.
• Graduation with a Biological Science degree plus 5+ years hospital lab experience in high complexity testing may be accepted.
• Certification required within 6 months of graduation for MLS/MT/CLS roles.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs quality control and follows QA guidelines.
• Trains laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Maintains lab supplies and inventory.
• May perform phlebotomy as applicable.
• Ensures CAP/JCAHO accreditation standards are upheld.
