Job summary

North Country Healthcare is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to support the department with technical and non-technical tasks, assist in training phlebotomy staff, and back up the histology lead.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (associate degree preferred), BLS certification, proficiency with LIS, Excel and Word, strong medical terminology, and at least one year of phlebotomy experience; you will handle specimen collection, data entry, and quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standing order file and yearly update standing order questionnaires.
  • Support quality improvement projects and follow up on quality concerns from other departments.
  • Perform service recovery by researching solutions for improved customer care.
  • Communicate corrective measures with patients and/or providers with manager/lead tech involvement.
  • Verify patient identities and proper specimen labeling; ensure age-specific procedures.
  • Collect STAT and Urgent specimens within established time frames using LIS, Excel and Word.
  • Collect 99% of blood and urine samples; transport and accession in LIS.
  • Manage charges and dates of service; follow up with providers to clarify orders.
  • Provide telephone support to lab personnel; backup Histology Lead as needed.
  • Procure specimens from off-site facilities as required.
  • Assist in chain of custody pre-employment specimen collection.
  • Maintain inventories of supplies and keep work area stocked.
