Job summary

The Detroit Institute of Arts is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology and Spirometry, and to conduct phlebotomy from newborn to young adults.

The role also involves preparing specimens for reference labs, conducting routine quality control, maintaining supplies, and occasional cross-training to assist Medical Assistants. CPR certification and Medical Assistant/LPN training are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; Graduation from Medical Assistant or LPN program.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory testing procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology and Spirometry.
• Reports laboratory results to a healthcare clinician and alerts for critical values; documents critical reports.
• Performs phlebotomy including venipuncture, finger sticks and heel sticks for patients from newborn to 18–20 years.
• Prepares specimens for reference lab send outs with labeling, results, and billing information.
• Performs and documents daily/weekly/monthly quality control and instrument maintenance.
• Maintains inventory of lab supplies and reorders as needed.
• May cross train to assist Medical Assistants.
