Job summary

Great River Health Systems is seeking a Laboratory Operations leader to direct and oversee performance across assigned departments, including test method evaluation, policy development, inventory control, and regulatory compliance. The role demands independent judgment in performing qualitative and quantitative tests and ensuring high quality results.

Responsibilities include bench coverage, quality control reviews, proficiency testing oversight, SOP maintenance, and staff training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science.
• Required 1-3 years clinical internship in NAACLS-accredited program or approved path meeting certification eligibility.
• Required 4-6 years minimal clinical laboratory experience.
• Maintains current and active status on all required training and education per policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide bench coverage as needed.
• Review quality control for assigned department(s).
• Oversee the proficiency testing program for assigned department(s).
• Maintain adequate inventory of materials and supplies to ensure uninterrupted patient testing.
• Review laboratory test results for accuracy.
• Write and review SOPs for assigned department(s).
• Coordinate and perform new test method validations.
• Oversee department workflow and ensure staff follow procedures and quality standards.
• Review monthly maintenance logs.
• Participate in training and orientation of new staff; provide ongoing education.
• Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
• Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure timely service.
• Participate in department meetings and quality assurance programs.
• Recommend changes to improve service and efficiency.
• Participate in continuing education and workshops on best practices.
