Job summary

Great River Health Systems is seeking a Technical Specialist for the West Burlington laboratory to oversee performance, validate tests, and ensure regulatory compliance. The role includes SOP development, quality control oversight, and proficiency testing management.

Responsibilities cover bench coverage, staff training, inventory control and cross-department coordination to maintain uninterrupted patient testing and adherence to best practices.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in medical technology or related science required.
• ASCP certification or eligible required.
• NAACLS accreditation experience preferred.
• Maintains required trainings per policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide bench coverage as needed.
• Review quality control for the department.
• Oversee proficiency testing program.
• Maintain inventory to prevent testing interruptions.
• Review lab results for accuracy.
• Write and review SOPs for the department.
• Coordinate and perform new test method validations.
• Oversee department workflow and ensure adherence to standards.
• Review maintenance logs monthly.
• Participate in training of new staff.
• Investigate service/equipment complaints and take corrective action.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely service.
• Participate in department meetings and QA programs.
• Recommend changes to improve service and efficiency.
• Engage in continuing education and workshops.
