Job summary

Atlantic Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to process specimens and perform high and moderate complexity testing under supervision. You will report accurate results, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure quality control and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role involves proficiency with HIS and LIS systems, inventory management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care and workflow efficiency.

Qualifications

• Specimen processing and accessioning according to guidelines.
• Follows approved standard operating procedures for testing.
• Proficiency in HIS and LIS software systems.
• Operates, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.
• Maintains quality control records and calibration logs.
• Participates in proficiency testing and ensures accurate specimen handling.
• Manages inventory including stock rotation and expiry checks.
• Assists with training of team members and students.
• Adheres to safety procedures of Atlantic Health and department.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate specimens and test orders for acceptability and process accordingly.
• Perform high/moderate complexity testing as per SOPs.
• Report accurate results and correlate with diagnosis as needed.
• Utilize HIS/LIS for data entry and result reporting.
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Document quality control activities and instrument maintenance.
• Engage in proficiency testing and ensure proper sample handling.
• Monitor inventory and expiration dates; manage supplies.
• Assist in training and mentoring staff and students.
• Follow Atlantic Health safety procedures.
