Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a laboratory support technician to receive, prepare, and process specimens. You will register patients, enter test orders, verify identifications, and maintain a clean, adequately supplied work area while supporting telecommunication tasks and report send-outs.

Responsibilities include operating instrumentation, troubleshooting issues, and mentoring MLA students under WPAHS policies. HIPAA compliance and privacy practices are essential to daily duties.

Qualifications

• 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting, registration, medical terminology (may come from training/degree)
• Laboratory training program or degree in clinical sciences preferred

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately to ensure proper testing and charges
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs
• Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned or required
