Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to receive, prepare, and process specimens delivered to the laboratory. The role emphasizes accurate test order entry, specimen identification, and adherence to department procedures.

Responsibilities include maintaining clean work areas, assisting with telephones and report sending, operating instrumentation, and mentoring MLA students. Compliance with HIPAA and privacy policies is essential.

Qualifications

• 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting, registration, medical terminology which may include experience acquired in conjunction with a training or degree program
• Laboratory training program or degree in clinical sciences

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and enters test orders into the lab information system.
• Verifies specimen identification and processes specimens per procedures.
• Maintains a clean work area and ensures adequate supplies.
• Provides support by answering calls, faxing reports, and sending outs.
• Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes action.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing per WPAHS policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
