Job summary

McLaren Health seeks a Laboratory Assistant to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for in-house and off-site locations. You will instruct patients on collection procedures and assist with Cytology specimen preparation and data entry in information systems.

Responsibilities include specimen handling, labeling, transport, QA activities, training new staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: certified phlebotomy technician.
• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training in approved program.
• Clinical laboratory environment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs proper specimen collection (blood and non-blood) including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation and storage.
• Verifies and processes patient data and test orders in hospital LIS/LIS systems, including ABN compliance.
• Maintains safe, clean working environment and follows infection-control and hazardous waste policies.
• Performs waived tests and assists in other testing platforms under technical oversight.
• Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
• Trains new staff and ensures regulatory compliance of the department.
