Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Clinical Lab Assistant I for Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL. This full-time position runs 40 hours weekly, with 7:00 am to 3:30 pm shifts and every other weekend, aligning with the hospital’s patient-care goals and compliance standards.

The role supports core lab operations including specimen processing, LIS data entry, and basic phlebotomy under CLS direction, contributing to accurate testing and timely results.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 1 year of general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the main lab staff and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
• Receives specimens into the laboratory information system.
• Inputs and retrieves lab results in LIS/hospital systems.
• Registers specimen dropoffs and ensures accurate data entry.
• Distributes specimens to testing areas and tracks them.
• Performs waived testing under supervision and ensures proper sample types.
• Communicates rejections and critical results to clinical staff and documents actions.
• Takes phlebotomy or related collections as needed.
• Coordinates courier pickups and triage phone calls to the lab.
