Job summary

MedStar Health in Baltimore seeks a Laboratory Technician to collect and process specimens for analysis and to perform routine duties in the assigned section.

Work hours are 1pm to 11:30pm on Fridays and every other Saturday and Sunday, with on-call coverage and holiday rotation. Initial training runs 3pm to 11pm on weekdays for 3 weeks.

The role requires attention to safety, accurate record-keeping, and teamwork with pathologists, technicians, and other staff across the department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves specimens and transports them to the laboratory for analysis.
• Reviews specimen IDs, investigates discrepancies, and submits corrections.
• Maintains a clean, safe work environment and reports hazards.
• Records supplies and maintains inventories as directed.
• Performs basic LIS entries and supports patient registration as needed.
