Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to collect and process specimens for analysis in the on-site clinical laboratory. Working hours are 1pm–11:30pm every Friday and every other Saturday and Sunday, with on-call coverage and holiday rotation.

Initial mandatory training runs 3pm–11pm for at least 3 weekdays per week during the first 90 days. The role involves specimen handling, LIS use, results communication, and supporting pathology

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves specimens as directed and transports them to the laboratory for analysis; logs specimens and files them.
• Reviews specimen identification, investigates discrepancies, generates reports and submits corrections.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work environment per safety and biohazard rules.
• Maintains required records, reports, statistics, and files as directed.
• Orders laboratory supplies and maintains inventories; performs quality control and maintenance checks.
