Job summary

Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant. The position supports CLIA guidelines, performs clerical duties, greets patients, and handles specimens across the pre-analytic phase.

The role requires a HS Diploma, 1 year of laboratory experience preferred, and BLS certification. CPT I/II certification is required where state-appropriate. Benefits are provided and a Total Rewards package is offered.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
• State Certified as CPT I or CPT II if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrates good telephone etiquette and greets patients and visitors politely.
• Possesses good communication skills and knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrates knowledge of phlebotomy and equipment for collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
• Processes specimens for multiple departments (pre-analytic phase) and for reference lab.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies and keeps work areas clean.
• With proper training, may perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and quality control tasks.
• Assist in Pathology training and evaluation; runner; assist in transcribing post-analytic results.
