Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for the Speciality Lab. The role supports clerical duties, specimen handling, and pre-analytic processing under supervision, following CLIA guidelines.

The position requires a HS Diploma and at least 1 year of laboratory experience, with CPT certification and BLS preferred. Eligible candidates will work nights with rotating weekends in a hospital setting, contributing to quality patient care and accuracy of test

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar functions preferred.
• State Certified CPT I or CPT II if laboratory is located in a state where required.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Greet patients and visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
• Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of phlebotomy and collection equipment.
• Processes pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens (pre-analytic phase only).
• Assists in reference laboratory specimen processing and inventory management.
• With proper training, may perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control procedures, and staining as assigned.
• Other tasks as assigned by department manager/director.

Education

HS Diploma or Equivalent

Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience

State Certified CPT I or CPT II (if required by state)

Current BLS certificate on hire
