Job summary

Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant in the Clinical Lab to support pre-analytic and clerical duties. The role requires adherence to CLIA guidelines, strong communication, and basic phlebotomy skills.

Responsibilities include specimen processing, clerical tasks, and stocking supplies, with supervision by licensed personnel. Shifts include 5:30am-2pm and 9am-5:30pm with rotating holidays and weekends in Chicago, IL.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1-year clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• State CPT I or CPT II certification if required by state.
• Current BLS certification upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, and clerical duties.
• Greet patients and visitors in a polite, friendly manner.
• Demonstrates good communication skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrates phlebotomy knowledge and collection equipment use.
• Processes specimens across pre-analytic areas for multiple departments.
• Prepares specimens for reference laboratory.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies.
• Keeps storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean.
• Operates laboratory instruments per policy.
• With training, may perform maintenance, QC procedures, inoculations, slides staining, and subcultures.
• Other tasks assigned by department manager/director.
• Assist in Pathology with training and eval.
