Job Description

Under the limited supervision of the Clinical Engineering Supervisor and/or Department Manager, performs highly skilled repair and maintenance of complex electronic patient care/monitoring and clinical engineering equipment, including installations, project management, calibration, and routine maintenance of medical electronic equipment.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration services on complex electronic patient care, clinical laboratory, computerized pneumatic conveying equipment, and basic radiographic equipment in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturers' manuals.
2. Interprets and performs inspection procedures appropriately, documenting procedures in accordance with Joint Commission regulations and departmental policies. Identifies potential safety hazards and documents actions taken to eliminate them.
3. Responds to work requests, troubleshoots malfunctions, and makes necessary repairs safely, timely, and efficiently. Installs, repairs, and maintains complex diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including electronic and mechanical components.
4. Schedules third-party repairs when needs exceed departmental expertise.
5. Maintains test equipment and tools in good working order. Communicates regularly with nursing, allied health, and medical staff regarding equipment operation to prevent or minimize failures.
6. Participates in the evaluation of new, rental, or demonstration biomedical equipment and provides recommendations for acquisition.
7. Follows clinical engineering practices and departmental policies to promote efficient repair services and operations.
8. Assists management with maintenance of departmental records, including maintenance requests, safety forms, files, relevant statistics, and technical manuals, in compliance with regulations.
9. Provides education on the use and operation of clinical equipment. Responds to emergency codes as trained. Strives for excellence in service as per CARE Commitments. Maintains honesty and complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
10. Maintains confidentiality and security of all protected health information, disclosing only as necessary for job functions.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
