MedStar Health is seeking a Clinical Engineering Technician I to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Under the general direction of the Clinical Engineering leadership team, the Clinical Engineering Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for maintaining clinical equipment according to the medical equipment management plan, policies, procedures, and manufacturer or alternative equipment maintenance specifications. The technician performs routine tasks related to installation, testing, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a limited scope of medical equipment and systems.

Primary Duties
- Respond to basic support requests, diagnose, resolve, and close issues involving medical equipment according to service level guidelines. May participate in on-call rotations, covering after-hours and weekends.
- Ensure that preventative maintenance is performed promptly according to the established schedule. Conduct daily rounds within the hospital to verify proper operation of medical equipment, correct deviations, order parts, receive, inventory, assemble, inspect, test equipment, and document results. Coordinate efforts with supervisors and experienced technicians as appropriate.
- Inspect and test electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical medical and scientific equipment following specific test procedures. Verify safety and accuracy for continued use. Document all work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), ensuring accuracy and completeness. Provide monthly reports as needed.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with colleagues regarding the status of work on their equipment. May provide technical training or instruction to facility staff on proper operation of patient care equipment. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas and ensure department facilities, equipment, and materials promote safety, health, and efficiency.
- Review department and unit operations manuals to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, federal and state regulations, Standards of Conduct, and the Corporate Compliance Program. Adhere to all MedStar Health policies, procedures, and applicable statutes and regulations.
- Support acuity equipment for direct patient care. Proactively suggest process improvements and assist in policy or procedure implementation.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field, or related military work/training in mechanical or electrical engineering, or relevant academic or work experience aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for Biomedical Equipment Technicians.
- 1-2 years of experience in repair and maintenance of medical equipment, including at least 1 year with advanced, specialty, highly sophisticated, or integrated medical systems.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician preferred.
