Position Summary
The Department of Journalism at the University of Georgia's College of Journalism and Mass Communication invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor, to begin in August 2025.
The person hired for this position will teach undergraduate classes in the journalism program that include multiplatform reporting and storytelling and involvement with two of our news organizations - Grady Newsource and The Oglethorpe Echo.
Other experiential opportunities could include work with study-away classes or with the Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management & Leadership, the Certificate in News Literacy, the Solutions Journalism Hub of the South, the National Press Photographers Association, and the Carmical Sports Media Institute.

Candidates with a master's degree must document exceptional accomplishments in the appropriate discipline or related area and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
- a record of excellence in multimedia journalism
- an established record of formal or informal teaching or mentoring in a professional or academic setting.
- a professional background as a journalist, including in video journalism
- at least five years of professional experience in journalism
- a professional background in leadership or management in a journalism organization
- a professional background in video journalism, with a record of excellence in one or more of these areas: video production (studio or field environments), video editing, video storytelling, live show production, documentary storytelling, audio storytelling, and/or digital producing
- professional connections within the journalism industry and a record that includes working with individuals from various backgrounds, worldviews, and life experiences.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
- a demonstrated understanding of the role of multimedia journalism and a willingness to engage with the journalism industry and consistently to update their own knowledge and skills to keep pace with how the industry and career pathways in journalism are evolving
- a demonstrated understanding of journalism fundamentals, including ethics and professional standards
- a demonstrated interest in journalism innovation, experimentation, and emerging products and platforms
- a demonstrated interest in engaging and connecting with students inside and outside of the classroom as they develop their skills and abilities
