Job summary

TTUHSC in Amarillo, Texas seeks a Clinical Assistant or Clinical Assistant Trainee to support patient care management in an outpatient clinic. The role requires basic clinical skills, clerical duties, and supervision by a physician or nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties from the Head nurse and Office Manager.
• Use basic equipment (thermometer, BP cuff, scales, stethoscope) and more advanced devices such as an EKG.
• Possess knowledge and ability to perform CPR, give injections, follow directions, observe details and communicate effectively.
• Work with patients and help them understand and follow provider directions and clinic protocols.

Position Description

Employees in this classification provide patient care management toan assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. Inthe clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision froma physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form.In the office setting, the employee receives direct supervisionfrom the department administrator. Work is performed under usualoffice and clinic conditions, and may be stressful when workingunder emergency conditions.

Applicant will be considered for either a Clinical Assistantor Clinical Assistant Trainee level position based on education,experience, and skills.

Major/Essential Functions

• All duties required from the Head nurse and or OfficeManager.
• Use basic equipment, i.e. thermometer, blood pressure cuff,scales, stethoscope, as well as, more sophisticated equipment suchas EKG machine.
• Possess the knowledge and abilities to perform CPR, giveinjections, follow directions, and to observe pertinent details andcommunicate effectively.
• Work with patients and help them to understand and followprovider directions and clinic protocols.

Required Qualifications

Clinical Assistant: A minimum of a High School diploma orequivalent. Graduation from an approved certified program forassistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by anapproved accredited certifying agency in the specialty in which theparticular work will be performed.

Clinical Assistant Trainee: A minimum of a High Schooldiploma or equivalent. License/Certification: Willing to beEnrolled in an approved certified program for assistants in thearea of required specialty. Certification obtained within projectedtime frame of certification program selected. Must be at least 17years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduation from a certified program or active enrollment in aprogram with expected completion prior to hire.
• 2 or more years clinic experience.
• EMR experience.
