Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a qualified Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) to support a busy clinic in Texas. You will perform direct patient care, take vital signs, assist physicians, and maintain accurate electronic health records.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and CMA certification, with a minimum of two years related experience. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred and a Monday–Friday day schedule is offered.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification as a CMA by an approved certifying agency is required.
• Minimum of two years directly related experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care tasks under supervision.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for exams.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.

• Sterilize instruments and manage supplies.
• Educate patients on care instructions and maintain electronic health records.

Position Description

Employees in this classification are in the senior position of thiscareer track and provide patient care management to an assignedclinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In theclinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from aphysician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. Inthe office setting, the employee receives direct supervision fromthe department administrator. May supervise other MedicalAssistants, clerical staff and student positions. Work is performedunder usual office and clinic conditions, and may be stressful whenworking under emergency conditions.

Major/Essential Functions

Clinical Medical Assistants (CMAs) perform direct patient caretasks:

• taking vital signs
• preparing patients for exams
• assisting physicians during examinations
• giving injections, drawing blood
• sterilizing instruments
• educating patients on care instructions
• while maintaining electronic health records
• managing supplies

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent; graduationfrom an approved certified program for assistants in the area ofrequired specialty.
• Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency inthe specialty in which the particular work will be performed; aminimum of two years of directly related experience.
• Minimum of two years directly related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Clinical experience
• Previous CMA experience
• Bilingual: English/Spanish
• Previous OB/GYN experience
