Job summary

Cardinal Health in California is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinical services in a fast-paced environment. You will manage referrals, coordinate scheduling for follow-up visits and labs, and assist with genetic testing coordination with pathology. Excellent patient-facing service is essential.

The role includes documenting in EMR, processing insurance authorizations, and back-up support for the clinical MA as needed, with a focus on accuracy and compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited institution preferred.
• Strong customer service background, preferably in healthcare environment.
• Experience assisting with referrals, scheduling labs and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Processes all outbound referrals in a timely manner, prioritizes urgent and STAT items appropriately.
• Ensures all pertinent paperwork regarding patient referrals is completed and documented in EMR.
• Scheduling of patient follow-ups, non-treatment related. Scheduling of labs and port flushes appropriately and correctly.
• Provides effective insurance authorization as needed. Submits all necessary documentation and proper diagnosis to insurance when submitting authorization.
• Keeps patients informed of status of referrals/authorizations.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, both on the phone and in person.
• Processes genetic testing and coordinates with pathology departments to ensure proper specimens are sent.
• Complete tasks as stated in the Admin MA SOP
• Back up clinical MA when needed.
• Effectively completes other duties and projects as assigned.
