Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a dynamic Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our tree care team. Your office is outdoors, and you’ll gain hands-on experience climbing, pruning, and learning to install safety systems.

This internship emphasizes safety, hands-on training, and career development in horticultural services. You’ll work with experienced crews, receive industry-leading training, and have opportunities for advancement in a nationwide employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and progressively learn new skills on a tree crew
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts
