The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a dedicated Climbing Arborist to join our outdoor team in Hamden, CT. The role emphasizes tree pruning, removal, and health preservation using advanced climbing systems, with significant safety training and on-site work throughout the job.

A strong outdoors affinity is essential to succeed. Candidates should bring forestry or horticulture background and be prepared to complete Davey orientation, First Aid/CPR, and defensive driving courses on hire.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: pesticide licenses/certificates if state law requires them.

Responsibilities

• Climb trees using DdRT/MRS or SRT/SRS systems and work with ground crew.
• Perform pruning and removal safely and skillfully for clients.
• Install cables, bracing and lightning protection as needed.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Contribute to a safety-conscious team and assist crew leader.

Job Duties

What You'll Do:

• Climb Trees! Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
• Including but not limited to:
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
