Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking an experienced IT hardware support specialist for a 6-month on-site contract in New Haven, CT. Candidates must have hands-on hardware support in Windows and Mac, knowledge of Linux if applicable, and a Bachelor’s degree in IT.

The role involves planning, deployment, and documentation across a multi‑platform IT environment. Responsibilities include coordinating with IT teams, vendors, and department moves or upgrades to minimize downtime, with emphasis on clear communication

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in IT.
  • Hands-on hardware support experience required.
  • Supports Windows, Mac, and Linux environments as applicable.
  • Experience with Office 365 (O365) preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

This is a 6 month contract to start onsite 5x a week in New Haven. This is NOT entry level and this person needs prior hands on hardware support experience, supporting windows/mac, and O365 experience. THIS PERSON NEEDS A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN IT

Coordinate, install and maintain the efficient and effective functioning of the hardware, software, and network systems for a department/University. Apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a field of specialization to complete difficult assignments. Interpret and communicate information, ideas, and instructions clearly, accurately, and persuasively both verbally and in writing including materials intended for distribution.

Position Focus
  1. Provide technical planning and computer support for faculty, staff, and students in multi-platform (Windows, Mac, and Linux (if applicable)) and computationally intensive environments.
  2. Coordinate service with IT professionals from other units.
  3. Prepare documentation (procedural, planning, team information, end user) to support functions specific to departments.
  4. Work closely with vendors and technical owners of applications to securely plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new or upgraded functions. Maintain list of key support contacts for each non-standard software or hardware device.
  5. Coordinate with departments during moves, renovation projects, and required upgrades to ensure technology interruptions are minimal.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
