Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Eureka, MO is seeking a full-time phlebotomist to join our client-site lab team. The position is 37 hours per week, with schedule Monday through Thursday 9am–5pm and Friday 8am–3pm.

You will perform phlebotomy across age groups, ensure proper specimen handling, and collaborate with laboratory and clinical staff to deliver timely results. A high school diploma and phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization or training, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
• Experience with processing lab specimens and familiarity with EMR systems (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and lab specimen collections per age-related standards.
• Provides post-phlebotomy patient care.
• Identifies need for medical assistance and calls code as appropriate.
• Reviews refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; logs findings and reports to supervisor.
• Uses manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately.
• Labels and processes specimens according to established protocols.
• Procures blood specimens from infant to geriatric patients.
• Maintains competency for age-related responsibilities.
• Operates and maintains equipment pertinent to the job.
• Notifies Laboratory/Physician of problems to ensure optimal care and follows up on test results.
• Obtains physician orders with required information for lab tests.
• Prioritizes tasks and multitasks effectively.
• Maintains a recollection rate under 2%.
• Follows safety goals for patient identifiers and handwashing.
• Maintains a friendly, professional demeanor and provides timely information to patients and customers.
• Addresses questions promptly and escalates when needed.
• Demonstrates teamwork across departments.
• Communicates respectfully and acknowledges contributions of others.
• Manages schedule and completes tasks on time.
• Participates in cost-reduction and process-improvement efforts.
• Notifies lab/physician of specimen procurement issues and follows up on results.
• Keeps informed via emails and complies with internal policies.

• Performs clerical duties related to lab specimens and releases results.

• Willingness to travel to additional sites as needed.
