Job summary

PENN Entertainment in Hobbs, NM is seeking a diligent Scale/Weights Clerk to manage horse weights, record all weights, and ensure accurate weight announcements for race days. You will coordinate with stewards, verify that scales are certified, and maintain precise scale sheets in a fast-paced, regulation-driven environment.

Requirements include being 18+, a high school diploma or equivalent, English proficiency, NM Racing Commission licensing, and strong customer service and professional

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Read, write legibly, understand and speak English.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word).
• Must be licensed with New Mexico Racing Commission.
• Excellent customer service/communication skills.
• Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.

Responsibilities

• Weigh jockeys out and in, and ensure that riders carry the correct assigned weight.
• Records all over weights and reports all infractions to the Stewards.
• Ensures all over weights are announced publicly and posted.
• Must ensure that scales have been certified to be accurate by a reputable company or governmental agency prior to the start of the race meet.
• Check scales for accuracy every race day.
• Maintain accurate scale sheets for each race.
• Must Assist Room custodian as necessary.
• Must have thorough knowledge and understand the New Mexico rules of Racing.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is an asset.
