Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a friendly Cleaning Ambassador to improve public spaces by keeping streets and sidewalks clean, safe, and inviting. You will engage with pedestrians and assist the community while performing a variety of cleaning tasks in an outdoor urban setting.

The ideal candidate enjoys outdoor work, can communicate in English, and meets the 18+ age requirement. We offer weekly pay, pay advances, benefits, PTO, free uniforms, and a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to walk/stand eight hours outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Perform street-level cleaning and litter removal.
• Greet pedestrians and provide directions.
• Remove graffiti and posters from urban fixtures.
• Report safety concerns via radios.
• Complete daily task reports in English.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $16.50 to $17.00 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Evening and Weekend availability REQUIRED

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
