Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador to keep public spaces clean and welcoming within the assigned zone. The role involves outdoor cleaning, litter removal, and engaging with the public to provide directions and information.

Experience is welcome but not required; training is provided. A Massachusetts driver’s license is preferred; must be 18+, able to work outdoors in all weather, and report in English.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred, but not required; training provided.
• HS Diploma or GED is required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must work outdoors in all weather.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Greet pedestrians and provide directions and city information.
• Remove litter, graffiti, posters from surfaces.
• Pull weeds at tree wells, cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces.
• Report safety concerns and complete simple task reports in English.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $22.63to $22.63 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Day shift - 6:30am to 3:00pm | OFF Days = TBD
• Evening shift - 4:30pm to 11:00pm | OFF Days = Tues. & Wed.

Valid MA Driver's License PREFERRED

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
