Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador in Chapel Hill, NC, to perform street-level cleaning tasks and engage with the public. The shift runs Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00am to 12:00pm, with weekly pay and pay advances available. Must be able to work outdoors and communicate in English.

No prior experience required; training provided. A high school diploma or GED is required, and a driver's license is preferred. Benefits include PTO, uniforms, and employee assistance programs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high level of visibility while performing cleaning tasks in assigned zones.
• Greet pedestrians and provide directions or city information as needed.
• Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys; remove graffiti and posters.
• Pull weeds around tree wells, cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces and keep areas tidy.
• Report safety concerns and complete basic daily task reports in English.

Pay Range: $19.58 to $19.58 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

What You'll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
