Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador to keep public spaces clean and friendly in Lexington, KY. The role involves high visibility street-level cleaning, engaging the public with a smile, and reporting safety concerns.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, ability to work 18+, and outdoor work in all conditions. Training is provided; weekly pay and benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to walk or traverse during an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must work outdoors in all conditions and speak, read, and write English to create reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform street-level cleaning tasks in assigned zones with a rolling trash can.
• Engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and provide directions or info.
• Remove litter and graffiti; pull weeds in sidewalks and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe outdoor surfaces and report safety issues using English efficiently.
• Complete basic daily task reports and monitor for safety concerns.

• Wed-Sun 1:30pm-10pm (Off Monday & Tuesday
• Weekend and Night availability REQUIRED

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
