Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador in Philadelphia to help keep city spaces clean and welcoming. The role involves visible street-level work, interacting with pedestrians, and performing a variety of outdoor cleaning tasks during an 7:00am–3:30pm shift, with weekend availability required.

You’ll remove litter, pull weeds, wipe surfaces, and report safety issues. Prior experience is welcome but not required; training is provided.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred, but not required; training will be provided.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to walk/traverse for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English for basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning tasks at street level in the assigned zone with a positive demeanor.
• Engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and provide directions or city information.
• Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys; remove graffiti and posters.
• Pull weeds at tree wells and sidewalk cracks.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Report safety concerns and complete daily task reports in English.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $19.00to $19.00 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• 7:00am to 3:30pm
• Weekend availability REQUIRED

Valid PA Driver's License PREFERRED

What You'll Be Doing:

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
