Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador to keep Honolulu’s streets clean, safe, and welcoming. You will patrol the assigned zone, greet passersby, and perform litter removal, graffiti cleanup, and weed pulling as part of daily duties.

We train new teammates; you must be 18+, able to work outdoors in all conditions, and communicate in English. The role offers $20 per hour with weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, and free uniforms.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.
• Outgoing and friendly demeanor to engage with pedestrians.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning tasks in the assigned zone with a professional demeanor.
• Greet pedestrians and provide directions or city information.
• Remove litter, graffiti and posters; pull weeds as needed.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.

What You'll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed which requires being proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
