Job summary

The Paraprofessional Educator at Scenic Park Elementary assists teachers with classroom activities and supervision. The role involves clerical tasks and student monitoring, with retirement through PERS. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus Alaska paraprofessional qualifications.

Strong communication and confidentiality are essential, with duties across attendance, grading support, and material preparation. Work is 7 hours per day, 9 months, part time (.875 FTE).

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods: 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution, OR a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam, OR a passing the WorkKeys by ACT assessment, OR passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators and the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain a professional relationship with staff, parents, students, administrators and the public.
• Knowledge of first aid (preferred).
• Experience in typing and general clerical work (preferred).
• Ability to work with people of all age levels (preferred).
• Ability to convey explanations of policies, regulations, and procedures (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepares class materials at direction of the teacher.
• Sets up class projects using guidelines established by the teacher.
• Handles routine reports needed to complete informational requirements.
• Records grades as assigned by the teacher.
• Checks attendance for assigned classes and assists with discipline for students as required.
• Aids pupils to carry out routine practice exercises assigned by the teacher, including listening to pupils read.
• Assists with assembling and putting materials on display.
• Assists with supervision of pupils on the school grounds.
• Assists with supervising a student, or group of students, during the lunch and recess periods, indoors and outdoors.
• Checks objective tests and marks errors, but does not determine final grades.
• Types letters, requisitions, inventories, cards, bulletins, bills, reports, ledgers, stencils, transcripts, tests, notices, and other administrative materials.
• Maintains student and teacher files.
• Supports ASD's position of valuing diversity, promoting respect, and maintaining standards of confidentiality.
