Job description

Position, Department: Classroom Supervisor/Lead Teacher, Operations

Type of Position: Full-time Salaried, Exempt

Pay Range: $41,800.00 - $53,800.00, determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Supervise an assigned classroom of young children at Hiersteiner Child Development Center (HCDC) and provide an effective learning environment for classroom staff and college students in cooperation with the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, Early Childhood Education Chair, and college faculty.

Required Qualifications:

  • First-level leadership.
  • Coordinate and lead daily team activities.
  • May spend part of the time performing work of those supervised.
  • Assist with management decisions and activities.
  • Working knowledge of team functions within the organization.
  • Required certifications and pre-employment verifications: Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Program Director Certification for Up to 100 Children, Active Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR, Health Assessment and TB Test, Child Development, Signs and Symptoms of Illness, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporting, Fingerprint-Based Background Check.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate daily operations of the classroom to meet best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensing, national accreditation, and federal food program guidelines.
  • Maintain classroom budget and purchase supplies/materials as needed.
  • Ensure classroom and outdoor play areas are well-maintained.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate data solutions for high availability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to employees, students, and volunteers.
  • Offer ongoing feedback to the Program Director regarding staff, student, and volunteer performance.
  • Conduct weekly meetings, grade assignments, and process student evaluations promptly.
  • Complete staff performance appraisals and facilitate annual 1:1 meetings.
  • Ensure JCCC student teachers, observers, and interns understand their responsibilities and complete tasks correctly and on time.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curricula for children.
  • Develop reciprocal relationships with families; greet them on arrival/departure, maintain daily child information, and conduct parent/teacher conferences.
