Chicago Public Schools (CPS) on the Southwest Side of Chicago seeks a Class Size Teacher Assistant to support instruction in priority schools. The role reports to the principal and a certified teacher, assisting with classroom activities and student learning.

The position emphasizes supervision, tutoring, classroom setup, and collaboration with teachers to ensure a productive learning environment while supporting student transport and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Valid paraprofessional license (ISBE) or be eligible to obtain after required college credits/exam.
• Ability to work with school-aged children and follow written and oral instructions.
• Strong English grammar and spelling with basic math knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising lunchroom and playground activities.
• Monitor corridors and review student IDs; provide security functions.
• Assist students with understanding and completing classroom assignments.
• Help teachers prepare bulletin boards and display student work.
• Operate photocopying machines to reproduce educational materials.
• Maintain orderly classroom arrangements and greet/guide visitors.
• Consult with teachers regarding concerns of individual students.
• Operate audiovisual equipment (projectors, tapes) as needed.
• Provide tutoring to students under teacher supervision.
• Collect and grade daily homework and exams under supervision.
• Assist in loading/unloading students on buses.
• Assist in receipts processing and book insurance under supervision.
