Job summary

Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking a motivated Claims Service Representative to review, investigate, negotiate, and settle assigned multi-line claims that do not require field visits. You will interpret policies, determine coverage and liability, value lost property, and help set reserves while maintaining detailed notes and documentation.

The role requires strong customer service, excellent communication and phone skills, and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 1+ years of relevant experience.
• Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
• Insurance experience (claims or underwriting) preferred; agriculture background helpful.
• Must exercise independent judgment to handle complex claims.
• Exceptional customer service skills and strong verbal and written communication.
• Excellent phone skills; ~80% of time on the phone.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Advanced computer skills to learn multiple systems.
• Progress toward industry education (AIC, CPCU, AEI) expected.

Responsibilities

• Review, investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle assigned claims involving multi-line insurance that do not require field investigation.
• Investigate facts, interpret policy and determine coverage and liability for the loss.
• Determine value of lost property and assist in setting reasonable reserves.
• Prepare detailed running notes, written reports and documentation following established procedures.
• Maintain a service‑oriented attitude and professional relationships with coworkers, agents, claimants and others.

What You'll Do:

As a Claims Service Representative, you will review, investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle assigned claims involving multi-line insurance coverage that do not require field investigation. You must investigate the facts of the loss, interpret the policy, and determine whether the loss is covered and if our client member is liable. You will also determine the value of lost property and assist in setting reasonable reserves. While handling the claim, you will prepare detailed and organized running notes, written reports and documentation in accordance with established procedures. As a Claims Service Representative, you must keep a service-oriented attitude at all times by maintaining professional and productive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, agents, agency managers, claimants, policyholders, doctors, attorneys, and others.

What It Takes To Join Our Team

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 1+ years of relevant experience. Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
• Insurance experience (specifically claims or underwriting experience) is preferred. Agriculture background/knowledge is helpful.
• Must exercise independent judgment and arrive at decisions through sound, logical reasoning in order to handle more complex claims.
• Exceptional customer service skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent phone skills required as approximately 80% of time will be spent on the phone.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Advanced computer skills are required in order to quickly learn our multiple systems.
• Progress towards industry education is expected (AIC, CPCU, AEI programs, etc.)
